The Institute is operated by Slippery Rock University’s Department of Nonprofit Management, Empowerment and Diversity and is designed to provide individuals and organizations the education, research, services and networks necessary to understand, strengthen and advance the work of the nonprofit sector. Available services include credit-bearing, academic opportunities, non-credit professional development and continuing education, networking events and programs, community education about and celebration of the nonprofit sector, research, evaluation and assessment, training and technical assistance, as well as resource and referral offerings.
The department offers Pennsylvania's only undergraduate program in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Management where students learn best practices in advocacy, public relations, marketing, fundraising, budgeting and financial management, program development and evaluation, and HR and volunteer management. Degree options include an in-person as well as a online degree completion program for individuals with an associates degree or a minimum of 60 college level credits. A PostBAC option provides individuals with undergraduate degrees to complete a second degree. Credit-bearing certificates are also available.
