About

About: The Macoskey Center for Sustainability was founded in 1990 on 83-acres of Slippery Rock University (SRU). Since then, it has served as a resource for sustainability education, demonstration, and research for SRU faculty, staff, students, and community members. 

Vision: The Macoskey Center aims to fulfill SRU’s educational, sustainability, and strategic missions by creating an environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable and just future 

Mission: We will achieve our vision through:
  • Educating and inspiring the SRU and regional communities through sustainability workshops, tours, programming, interdisciplinary research, as well as outdoor recreational experiences              
  • Demonstrating how people from all walks of life can live more sustainably through the management and maintenance of our 83-acre homestead
  • Cultivating mutually beneficial partnerships to effectively integrate SRU’s curriculum with the co-curriculumto enhance education, research, and demonstration, as well as to advance the quality of life both on and off-campus 

Opportunities for Involvement: The Macoskey Center offers a variety of ways SRU faculty, staff, students, and community members can help us to live out our mission and vision.  

  • Attend any of our virtual programs, workshops, and/or tours 
  • Take a walk on our hiking trails 
  • Explore the various sustainability features (i.e. solar panels, greenhouse, gardens, and more) on our property 
  • Use our outdoor classroom spaces as study spaces
